DBT Prolonged Exposure is an evidenced based trauma treatment created specifically for DBT clients that have severe comorbid conditions such as personality disorders, mood disorders, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, and substance use disorders along with the diagnosis of PTSD. This treatment was developed with the mission of providing a safe and effective treatment for clients with high risk behaviors that would otherwise not have access to working on their PTSD symptoms in a traditional treatment setting. As it is with regular DBT treatment, in DBT PE the therapist and client collaboratively work towards decreasing life threatening behaviors and preparing the client for trauma treatment through learning the DBT skills and strategies. All of this is in the service of supporting the client in improving their quality of life by freeing themselves of their PTSD and meeting their life worth living goal.
