MARY-KATE PROIETTA, LCSW

Mary-Kate Proietta is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the Manager of Group Programming at TLA. Specializing in individual, couples, and group therapy, she works with adolescents and adults who are navigating a variety of complex life experiences like chronic illness, neurodivergence, life transitions, grief, emotion dysregulation, and trauma.

Mary-Kate’s approach is relational and humanistic at its core, grounded in respect, empathy, compassion, and curiosity. She recognizes that no one’s struggles exist in isolation; individual experiences are shaped by broader social, cultural, and systemic factors. This perspective informs her work, ensuring that therapy addresses both the personal and the contextual.

She is trained in evidence-based modalities including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and mindfulness techniques. Mindfulness plays a key role in helping clients stay present, manage emotions, and foster a deeper sense of self-awareness. She places particular emphasis on trauma-informed care, and integrates Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) principles to help clients cultivate self-compassion and address shame. Through this lens, she supports clients to develop a kinder relationship with themselves and build resilience.

In her sessions, Mary-Kate teaches practical skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, giving her clients the tools to manage emotions, handle discomfort, and build healthier relationships. She views therapy as a partnership, supporting her clients as they move toward healing, self-acceptance, and a more meaningful life.

Mary-Kate earned a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of South Florida. She feels privileged to be with her clients in both the joys and messes of life.
